A stainless steel credenza is a classy addition to any kitchen. But if you get fingerprints or stains on it, it doesn’t look so good. That’s why I’ve listed 9 simple and practical tips for cleaning a stainless steel splashback.
For all those who have ordered or already own a food-grade brushed stainless steel splashback, follow these tips for expert cleaning !
Why is stainless steel suitable for kitchen splashbacks ?
Ideal for kitchens, stainless steel has been used for years in the food sector, and especially in professional kitchens. Resistant to oxidation, in recent years this material has become a real star in kitchens, protecting walls from splashes of all kinds.
Trendy and hygienic, stainless steel will create a sensation not only in your kitchen, but also in your living room, depending on your needs. Despite all these advantages, stainless steel is still a messy metal, but don’t panic, I’ll tell you everything you need to keep your hood or credenza sparkling!
⚠️ Important information : for all cleaning enthusiasts: whatever method you use, always clean your stainless steel credenza in the direction of the brush!
How to clean a stainless steel splashback with natural, household products?
Technique 1 - Soapy water
Mix a few drops of washing-up liquid or soap with warm water. Soak a sponge in the soapy water and rub gently over your stainless steel credenza. Dry to shine.
📍 Caution : Do not use the abrasive side (the green side), as this will cause scratches and oxidation spots (yes, stainless steel can oxidize!).
Technique n°2 - Mixture of vinegar, olive oil and washing-up liquid
Start by mixing equal parts white vinegar and water. You can also add 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon washing-up liquid. Rub your stainless steel credenza with a soft cloth, then wipe dry.
Technique n°3 - Oil and lemon
Another blend of food products: an oil and lemon-based vinaigrette. This mixture effectively polishes your stainless steel credenza.
Rub your stainless steel with this vinaigrette and a soft cloth. Wipe dry with a microfiber cloth.
Technique n°4 - White clay stone
White stone is a multi-purpose cleaner. It can be applied to a wide variety of objects and materials. If you haven’t already guessed it, white clay also cleans stainless steel perfectly.
Using a small sponge, gently scrub and rinse. For stainless steel to shine, wipe with a microfiber cloth.
Technique n°5 - Baking soda | 100% ecological
Mix 2 tablespoons baking soda with 1 tablespoon water. Rub with a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse with hot water and dry with a microfiber cloth.
Technique n°6 - Blanc de Meudon
As with bicarbonate, make a paste with Blanc de Meudon and water. Rub this mixture with a dry cloth over your stainless steel credenza. Rinse with hot water and allow to shine.
Technique n°7 - Using black soap
Black soap is a natural, 100% biodegradable multi-purpose cleaner. It is highly effective for deep cleaning and shining surfaces. A very good reason to have a jar at home!
Mix a capful or 1 tablespoon of black soap in 3L of water. You’ll be able to clean your whole kitchen with this mixture!
Technique #8 - Using Marseille soap
Melt soap in hot water. Take a sponge and clean your stainless steel credenza. Wipe immediately with a microfiber cloth to avoid traces of Marseille soap.
Technique n°9 - Window cleaner
A product that every household has at its disposal is a window cleaner. Target the stains and clean your stainless steel credenza as if it were a window. So use a soft cloth to scrub your kitchen credenza.
Mistakes to avoid if you want to preserve your stainless steel kitchen splashback !
If you have a stainless steel credenza in your kitchen, it’s important to know which products to use and which to avoid when cleaning it. Using inappropriate products can lead to scratches or even corrosion on your brushed stainless steel plate.
Here are the products to avoid:
- Abrasive sponges : scouring sponges are too abrasive and may cause scratches on your stainless steel credenza.
- Bleach : bleach and other disinfectants are corrosive and can damage the surface of your credenza.
- Powdered products : powdered cleaning products are also abrasive and may cause micro-scratches.
- Pure limescale remover : using pure limescale remover can damage the surface of your stainless steel credenza.
- Pure white vinegar : although white vinegar is an excellent natural cleaner, it is too aggressive for stainless steel and can cause damage.
- Pure acid products : as with vinegar, pure acid products are also too aggressive for stainless steel and can cause damage. However, diluted in water, they can be used safely.
- Super-concentrated stain removers : super-concentrated stain removers are often too strong and can damage the surface of your stainless steel splashback.
